Downtime: boring beyond belief

17 05 2007

Doing nothing can get really boring, very quickly. On past breaks, its usually been a week or so until I’ve gotten bored of wasting away. I’ve even went to the gym 3 times since my return home, spent two days visiting Wall St., yet still, I’m freakin bored. One of the more unusual moments of break so far has been visiting SAB while in business attire (read: suit). I was enthralled how everyone basically went quiet as I walked into the lounge. Kinda awkward, kinda cool…

Trying to make the most of what little summer break I have, I’m applying for jobs at two pools, 3 retail stores and I am scouting for any possible office jobs. What I am looking forward to, is hopefully seeing some of my old friends, several of whom I haven’t seen for more than a year.

At the moment, I am exhausted, even though I awoke at 10 or so, so I have only been up for 12 hours. Regardless, I think I’m off to sleep.

The end of my sophomore year

7 05 2007

My days as a sophomore are almost gone, and what a year its been. At the moment, I’m in the midst of the marathon called Finals – two finals done, one final paper submitted and two Econ finals to go. Im probably going to crash tonight; I’ve gotten around 6 hours of sleep or less each of the last two nights, I had one Red Bull last evening and one this morning…

Sophomore year, I believe, has really been the first year where I really lived the college experience. I pushed myself academically (Chemistry 1), seen the more vile sides of human nature (betrayal and apathy) and began learning how to be myself around girls. I feel ready to go abroad; I do not say that Tufts no longer offers me anything new, I know thats not true, but I believe I’ve built a foundation of experiences and personal growth upon which I can complete the rest of my undergraduate experience.

Summer approaches, yet I know little of my plans. With only 6 weeks to spend at home, I couldn’t honorably apply to any substantial jobs or internships. I still hope to find a more casual internship, but I will probably end up lifeguarding to bring in a few bucks and keep busy. I imagine it will take a substantial amount of time to get my things in order – as I will have to bring all of my belongings with me several times (flying to New Zealand, then Australia (?), then Bangladesh, then Hong Kong, then back home). In any case, I probably will be itching to leave home sooner rather than later.
